The British Council is dedicated to supporting English language learning in all its forms. We have decades of experience helping institutions and the Ministry of Education to achieve their language goals. We also work directly with teachers through online and face-to-face teacher training.
Supporting teacher development
Our work with the Ministry of Education
We work with a number of Ministry of Education departments to support the teaching of English within the UAE education system.
Our recent work has included:
- Developing and publishing English language teaching resources for Cycle 3 students in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Education Council. These resources are currently being used with all Grade 10, 11 and 12 students in ADEC schools.
- Working with the Ministry of Education and 24 schools throughout Dubai and the Northern Emirates on Kids Read, an award-winning partnership between the British Council and HSBC Middle East Limited. Kids Read aimed to promote reading for pleasure among primary students. Throughout the 4-year project we helped participating schools build their libraries, trained hundreds of teachers, engaged children through competitions and innovative resources and held 16 reading events for the general public.
- Training 120 Cycle 3 teachers and coordinators from the Ministry of Education’s Madares Al Ghad programme to better prepare their students for exams, specifically IELTS.
Our work with schools
We work with individual schools to provide tailored teacher training programmes, both face-to-face and online, for their staff.
We also deliver IELTS preparation courses to students. These courses take place in the partner schools and are delivered by British Council trainers.
If you are interested in teacher training or IELTS courses for your school, please contact us.
Our work with teachers
We work with teachers through our English Language Teaching Professionals Network (ELTPN)
The ELTPN provides face-to-face and online training workshops and information on the latest developments in ELT.
We are a long-standing supporter of continuous professional development in ELT, working with both the public and private sector to provide developmental opportunities and encourage collaboration between ELT professionals.
