The British Council announced the winners of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2022-23 in Dubai, UAE. This prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world. In 2022-23, the award received from around 1000 applicants from international UK alumni in more than 100 countries, representing more than 120 UK higher education institutions across the UK.

Congratulations to our winners:

1. Culture and Creativity Award: Amanda Hamilton Rushforth

Amanda Rushforth is leading sustainable fashion and lifestyle activist in the Middle East, offering educational talks across schools and corporates nationwide, to draw awareness to the impacts of our consumer choices and the effects these have on our environment. Amanda observes that Southampton University provided her with opportunities and connections that helped her establish a better understanding of a potential career path, industry insight, environmental goals and international impact. 

2. Social Action Award: Mariam ElShatlawy

Mariam ElShatlawy is the Investor Relations lead of a biotech spinout from Oxford University and CRUK. Her work focuses on assisting the Executive team and CEO at fundraising and strategic growth of the company, contributing to innovations in cancer treatment, clinical trials, and business strategies that have driven significant growth and international recognition. Mariam credits her UK education at Oxford and Leeds for equipping her with critical analytical skills, independent learning, and the ability to lead high-impact projects in the science field, setting a foundation for her success in global healthcare initiatives.

3. Science and Sustainability Award: Muhammad Fareed

Dr. Muhammad Amber Fareed is a senior faculty member at the College of Dentistry, Ajman University, UAE, where he has significantly contributed to the field of restorative dentistry. His research on dental biomaterials and nanotechnology is shaping the future of sustainable oral healthcare, impacting both his students and the wider dental community. Through his teaching and mentorship, Dr. Fareed is guiding the next generation of dental professionals in the UAE and beyond. Dr. Fareed reflects that his education at the University of Birmingham and Queen Mary University of London equipped him with the critical thinking, research skills, and global perspective essential for pioneering advancements in dental science. The multicultural environment and rigorous academic standards of UK universities were instrumental in shaping his professional journey.

4. Business and Innovation Award: Linus Benjamin Bauer

Linus is the Founder & Managing Director of Bauer Aviation Advisory (BAA) which was established during the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, BAA developed tailor-made health check packages with various themes for aviation companies to drive substantial operational and cost efficiencies, enhancing cost optimization and revenue generation to increase profits among aviation companies. His ultimate mission is to secure a sustainable, profitable, and better future for the aviation industry. He studied at City, University of London, acknowledging City's large global network of aviation industry professionals out of the UK which helped him enhance his learning and appreciation of the wider subject in aviation.
