The history and effects of different cultures coming into contact
Join Peter Frankopan, author of the international best-seller The Silk Roads: A New History of the World, in a discussion moderated by Rehan Khan at the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) as part of the UK Guest of Honour Programme.
This discussion will look at how history has often brought different cultures into contact and how trade routes, the exchange of ideas and the developments of civilisations are linked in surprising ways.
Peter Frankopan is a Professor of Global History at Oxford University, specializing in the history of trade, religion, ideas and culture across Europe and Asia. He is the author of the international best-seller The Silk Roads: A New History of the World, described as a ‘historical epic of dazzling range, ambition and achievement’ (Guardian), and ‘a rare book that makes you question your assumptions about the world’ (Wall St Journal).
